Sara McLafferty’s areas of research and teaching include the geographies of health and health care, urban geography and spatial analysis methods/GIS. She has examined geographic inequalities in health and social well-being in cities in the United States and the use of spatial analysis methods and GIS in modeling and understanding such inequalities. Her research has also explored variations by race and ethnicity in women’s geographical access to employment opportunities and health and social services. She has published in a wide range of geography, epidemiology and urban studies journals and has authored a book, GIS and Public Health (Guilford Press, 2002) with Ellen Cromley. She currently serves on the editorial boards of Geographical Analysis, Economic Geography and Health and Place.
