Thank you for visiting the web page of the Department of Geography at the University of Illinois. We appreciate your interest in our academic programs, faculty, staff, students, and department activities. This is an exciting time for Geography at Illinois. We have recently become part of a new school - the School of Earth, Society and Environment (SESE) - which also includes the Department of Geology and the Department of Atmospheric Science. A key aspect of SESE is to pursue research and education related to coupled human-natural systems. Geography is playing a prominent role in SESE and support has been forthcoming in the form of several new senior and junior faculty hires that have strengthened all aspects of our department. In addition to our own undergraduate major, with options in GIS, general, human and physical geography, we also are active participants in a new interdisciplinary major the Earth System, Environment and Society. For graduate students we offer areas of specialization in Geographic Information Science, Society, Space and Environments, and in River, Watershed and Landscape Dynamics.
